A. If you are not a fan of the show, it will not make any difference in watching the movie. I'm sure you've heard enough about Mulder and Scully to get the basics. The movie stands on it's own merit. If you like the genre, you'll probably like the movie. Happy watching!
A. I own the movie, but have never watched the show.
A. The movie is not much more than a continuation of the story from the show. The film picks up where the then current season finale ended, and then the next season picked up from the end of the film. If you've never seen the show, you won't understand the movie. You may still enjoy it, but you really need to understand the characters' backstory to really appreciate it.
A. The movie is essentially a long, high budget episode. It has some "stand-alone" qualities, but many of the references assume you know certain characters as well as how the different story types (myth arc, conspiracy and monster of the week) interact and diverge. The smoking man (i don't believe they use his name in the movie, heh), the bees, the black oil, all are assumed to have some foreknowledge of before watching the movie.
