The Proenza Schouler story is one of the fashion industry's favorite yarns. After their graduation project at Parsons Design School was snapped up by store buyers and heralded by the press, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, who had worked for Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs, respectively, created the label Proenza Schouler. (The label is named for their grandmothers.) Though designing since only 2002, Proenza Schouler has skyrocketed to the top, having been awarded the CFDA.s Perry Ellis Award for new talent in 2003. With a focus on fine tailoring and rich embellishments, their style combines historical references with contemporary proportions. In 2007 the duo designed a Go! International collection for Target.
